Take Me to the River + Busy Week Ahead
Hi, everybody.
This weekend was magical. My first live Martin Sexton experience can best be described as time well spent in a roomful of joy. I think he likes us. Saturday was no less joyful as the Roaring Divas brought the party and 90’s vibes. I love the boisterous love they evoke. Shared experiences are great.
This week flows TACAW-style through Friday with youth programming, delicious food, compelling film, and a burner of a Blues show. Rivers also flow. Did I ever tell you about the time I saw Martin Sexton live? During his second set, he ended a song by drifting into a Johnny Cash tune. Chuckling, he said, “You know sometimes songs are like each other. It’s Rock and Roll. I call it riding that River of Rock and Roll.” He then started his song, Hallelujah, and proceeded to ride the river with ports of call in Pink Floydsville, Beatlestown, U2pia, Darius Ruckerburg, Journey City, and Beatlestown 2.0. There is no way to really describe sharing that experience with 244 other people.
Back to this week’s happenings.
Tuesday, February 28 – Colorado Shakespeare Festival’s Violence Prevention Program – An abridged performance of The Merchant of Venice followed by a discussion led by the actors. This is one of many examples of the great work Art Williams is doing for the young people in our community.
Wednesday, March 1 – Supper Club – Only two chances left in this series. Check out this week’s menu.Thursday, March 2 – …AS IF THEY WERE ANGELS Film + Conversation – A special screening with the filmmaker Terry Strauss. This story of a heroic community coming to the aid of American sailors is sure to inspire.
Friday, March 3 – Christone “Kingfish” Ingram – The burner of blues show I mentioned earlier. If you were at Martin Sexton the other night, please click the link and read for yourself. Ryan totally botched the description of this one.
I can’t wait for someone to get me back on that rock and roll river. I suspect Kingfish is up to the task.
