Supper Club, Sold out Sexton, and Divas

Hi, everybody.

Can I start by requesting a couple of do-overs from last week’s email? First, I was gently reminded by my friend and TACAW founder, John Jaggers, that I took that late-night uber to see Andrew Duhon upon HIS recommendation. John saw Andrew at a house show in Dallas and was impressed by his voice and songcraft. I’m grateful for the recommendation. You can thank John as well after what is sure to be a stunning show on July 21. Secondly, I am doubling down on Les Hay Babies. Except THIS is the record I hope you listen to. Kudos if you found your way to it on your own. A little surfy, a little retro psychedelic, a little poppy, and still very much French Canadian.

On to the happenings of this week.

  • Wednesday – Supper Club returns after a two-week break. There are still some seats available.
  • Friday – Martin Sexton is SOLD OUT. I love typing that!
  • Saturday – The Roaring Divas Present: Millennium Mania – Our favorite drag family is back with a celebration of 90’s music. These parties are fun community happenings, for sure. You can get tickets HERE.

We’ve added a new Equity Speaker Series event on March 8. We already have Jake Blount and Kaia Kater playing a concert on March 9th. They join us a day early for a compelling conversation and a little taste of what the concert the next day may hold.

  • Wednesday, March 8, 6:30 pm – Signifyin’ Blackness In Sound: Jake Blount and Kaïa Kater are storytellers who not only share Black histories in speech and song but embody the same histories in sound. This conversation between the two artists will illuminate the ways sound can be used to evoke particular places, moments, or people within Black history. Free with RSVP HERE.

That’s all for now. If you read this far, thanks! If you didn’t, you‘ve no idea how disappointed I am with you right now.
