Standing O’s + GRAMMY Jazz + BOMBINO
Hi, everybody.
Last Friday we had another TACAW first. Both events we hosted ended in standing ovations. That’s right. Two standing o’s within 11 hours. Challenge Aspen brought the crowd to their feet with their funny and fun performance of Ticket to Ride and the Andrew Duhon Trio shared their amazing brand of New Orleans-tinged Americana. I stand by my statement last week that they were the best show in the Valley Friday night.
I’m pretty happy about the next three concerts at TACAW. Come spend some time indoors with us. The mosquitos will wait for you. I’m sure about that.
Friday, July 28 – Sullivan Fortner Trio – Yet another GRAMMY-winner gracing our stage with a couple of real talents backing him up. This special opportunity was made possible through the cooperation of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Western Jazz Presenters Network.
Saturday, August 5 – Susto – Justin Osborne brings his band back to TACAW with a new record in tow. Need a sample for extra motivation? Here’s a set of SUSTO songs – two new and my fave from the last record. They already have me. But, if they hadn’t, Mermaid Vampire would have done the trick.
Sunday, August 6 – The Band of Heathens – You need to know, I wouldn’t ask our terrific team to work on Sunday night if I truly didn’t believe it was worth it. We have a special bonus addition to this lineup. Emmer & Ellis (Jackson and Harley, Jr.) are going to kick things off. How are you going to look these fine gents in the eyes at City Market if you skip this?
One new event was added to the calendar. It’s another doozy! If you are unfamiliar with Taureg music you have some time to fix that. There are a slew of respected Taureg bands out of the Sahel. Bombino shares a spot at the top of that list. The live show is a body-moving, mind-expanding affair not to be missed.
Friday, October 6 – Bombino – Traditional Taureg music mixed with elements of rock and blues. This promises to be an evening of mesmerizing guitar melodies, intricate rhythms, and soulful vocals that create a captivating and hypnotic sound.
That’s it for now. Looking forward to seeing you at TACAW soon!
