Spotlighting Community & Culture

TACAW believes in the power of arts and culture to unite our community. Over the coming weeks, we invite you to discover the incredible talent within our community and connect over cultural experiences that move the body and stir the soul.

The Roaring Divas: Lip Sync Battle Extravaganza kicks off February! That’s right, the Roaring Divas are hosting a lip-sync battle royale! The competition? Drag queens from Grand Junction! Ooooh, get the popcorn, honey, because this is about to get good! We’ll see you there as these lip sync assassins rise to the top and we crown a winner, baby! It all goes down February 3rd; get your tickets here.

In the spirit of uniting community in tougher times, we’re partnering with Pathfinders as Robyn Hubbard leads a Community Grief and Wellness Movement Meditation on February 6th. We will be guided through honoring our experiences of loss while embodying grief as a doorway into connection through expressive art, movement, and dance. This resource and resilience-based ritual through the Four Paths of Soulful Living and Grieving reclaims grief as part of a soulfully lived life.

Local nonprofit organization English In Action brings its signature storytelling experience, Immigrant Voices, back to TACAW on February 8th. This powerful event provides a unique opportunity for six immigrant community members to raise their voices and share a part of their lives with our community here at 400 Robinson.

Common Ground profiles a hopeful and uplifting movement of white, black, and indigenous farmers who are using alternative “regenerative” models of agriculture that could balance the climate, save our health, and stabilize America’s economy – before it’s too late. Screening here on February 23rd, the film explores how Americans from different walks of life, different political backgrounds, and different parts of the country share one thing in common —the very soil beneath their feet. The cast includes Laura Dern, Rosario Dawson, Jason Mamoa, Woody Harrelson, Ian Somerhalder, and Donald Glover.

What is it like to leave everything you know behind? Join Aspen Words for Winter Words with memoirist and award-winning poet Safiya Sinclair on February 29th as she discusses her new book, “How to Say Babylon” which examines the author’s rigid Rastafarian upbringing and her efforts to break free from the patriarchal structure that defined her youth.

As always, keep your eye on our events calendar, you never know what you might find. Shows are added all the time, sometimes without warning!
