Movie, music, and more this week in Willits. Don’t miss a thing!

Hi, everybody.

Did you miss getting an email from us last week? I got so caught up in the amazingness that was Tig Notaro, The Travelin’ McCourys, Jack Broadbent, and Son Volt that I forgot to hit send. Don’t worry. I‘ll make up for it with two emails this week. Later this week, we will announce more amazing events. Am I overusing amazing? How about excellent events? Fabulous? Stupendous? OK, I suppose that is enough truthful hyperbole.

For now, I’d like to remind you what is going on this week and Saturday the 20th. Film! Music! Two different ways to dance with us! Check it out.

AUGUST 11 –  THE TERRITORY 5POINT SUMMER FILM SERIES

The Territory provides an on-the-ground look at the tireless fight of the Indigenous Uru-eu-wau-wau people against deforestation brought by farmers and illegal settlers in the Brazilian Amazon. The film provides unprecedented access to the farmers and settlers illegally clearing the protected Indigenous land.

AUGUST 12 –  Y LA BAMBA

Y La Bamba has been many things, but at the heart of it is singer-songwriter Luz Elena Mendoza’s inquisitive sense of self. “Music is an extension of everything I have inside. It’s how I emote,” Mendoza says. Armed with traditional música Mexicana and American folk, Y La Bamba’s artistry is Mendoza’s search for unadulterated truth.

AUGUST 13 –  THE BODY ALIVE @ TACAW

Jayne Gottlieb of Aspen Shakti created the Body ALIVE practice as a fusion of yoga, dance and embodiment set to loud music, concert lighting and infectious energy. It is so much more than a workout class. Think Conscious Night Club mixed with a Killer Workout.

AUGUST 20 –  BASALSA

BASALSA is back! Plenty of details to come. There will be much going on: food trucks, children’s activities, dance lessons, an afternoon barefoot bachata social outside and an evening social in the theater. Presented in partnership with The Buddy Program & Mezcla Socials.

Looking forward to seeing you here, with or without your dancing shoes.

Best,

Kendall Smith
