MISSION

The Arts Campus at Willits presents exceptional performing arts, cultural events, and
thought-provoking programming that sustain a connected, engaged, and inspired community.

The Arts Campus at Willits board and staff are a group of highly engaged professionals with expertise in performing arts programming, construction, development, design, not for profit arts administration, fundraising and donor management, and unified by an overwhelming commitment to the arts and the community.

SUSTAINABILITY

TACAW is a proud nonprofit partner of 1% for the Planet. TACAW plays a part in fighting climate change and making an environmental impact, in the following ways:

  • The nation’s first sustainable, all-electric performing arts facility that functions at or near net-zero energy usage throughout the year.
  • Presenting an ongoing climate-focused programming track that informs, educates, and inspires action.
  • Development and presentation of Captain POW!, an original play that inspires kids to get engaged in environmental stewardship.
  • Continuing collaborations with the Rocky Mountain Institute, CORE, and Holy Cross Energy to create a hub for artists, speakers, and thought-leaders.
  • Standing as a net-zero model for performing arts centers around the world.

HISTORY

Willits was approved 20 years ago as a new community in the expanding Midvalley. The Arts Parcel was set aside and a real estate transfer assessment (RETA) was established creating a once-in-a-Town‘s-lifetime opportunity to build a campus for arts, culture, and education.

  • Over the past 20 years, Willits has grown into Midvalley’s economic and social center
  • 2015 – The Arts Campus at Willits (TACAW) was organized as a 501c3
  • 2017 – TACAW secured a 99-year lease for the Arts Parcel and access to the RETA funds
  • September 2017 – TACAW opened The Temporary, an interim home for the arts
  • April 2019 – The Temporary completed its run as a successful proof of concept after more than 240 performances
  • Summer 2019 – TACAW 2020: A Capital Campaign for The Arts Campus At Willits begins
  • Spring 2020 – Construction of The Arts Campus At Willits begins 
  • Summer 2021 – The Arts Campus At Willits opens
