LET THEM EAT KING CAKE

Hi, everybody!

What a run of calorie-burning we’ve been on. I’m not just talking about all the chair lifting and table moving Jack has been doing setting and resetting the theater. I’m talking about the numerous evenings of participatory dance programming we’ve had recently. Whether by Salsa, boot-scootin’ or just general gettin’ down, y’all should be proud of the collective calories burned at TACAW these last couple weeks.

This week we have a couple of seated evenings before Lowdown Brass Band brings the party on Saturday.

Tonight you can join us for a Benefit for Huts for Vets. We are showing Faux Reels’ documentary short, “It’s All Uphill From Here” and hosting a Q&A with filmmaker, Hamilton Pevec, and the legend, himself, John Seipel. The sponsors have contributed some pretty great stuff for a raffle and all proceeds support this important nonprofit.

Friday marks our first collaboration with Aspen Film in the new space. We have two dinner tickets left, but you can also join us just for the film. “Breaking Bread” is about the A-Sham Festival, a groundbreaking food festival where Arab and Jewish chefs work in tandem to create mouthwatering dishes in order to foster social change. You can’t beat the film’s tagline, “Hummus has no borders.”

Tuesday we celebrate Fat, um, Tuesday in the Commons (TACAW’s beautiful lobby). Epicure is preparing some of their favorite New Orleans dishes for an all-you-can-eat feast. Valley piano legend Frank Todaro and trumpet player Dustin Lutomski provide the soundtrack for this Mardi Gras experience. And there will be King Cake, King Cake people!

We’ve also added more events for you to check out.

  • Consensual Improv is back on April 9th. Comedy so nice we’ve booked it thrice!
  • Dance Initiative is back on April 13th for a screening of the documentary, “Cunningham”. The film will be followed by a Q&A with resident artist and featured dancer in the film, Melissa Toogood.
  • Tropa Magica brings their psychedelic cumbia stylings (I love typing those three words together)  on April 16th. This is going to be good and weird and fun. Trust me!
  • May 21st we have Todd Snider and his “Pickin. Grinnin. Tellin Stories. Takin Requests.” solo tour stops by for an intimate evening.

Jack is going to be one busy guy. See you soon!
