Even fewer bands leave a legacy during that time that marks them as a truly special\, once-in-lifetime type band. And no band has done all that and had as much fun as Leftover Salmon. Since their earliest days as a forward thinking\, progressive bluegrass band who had the guts to add drums to the mix and who was unafraid to stir in any number of highly combustible styles into their ever evolving sound\, to their role as a pioneer of the modern jamband scene\, to their current status as elder-statesmen of the scene who cast a huge influential shadow over every festival they play\, Leftover Salmon has been a crucial link in keeping alive the traditional music of the past while at the same time pushing that sound forward with their own weirdly\, unique style. \n\n\n\nIn their fourth decade as a band\, Leftover Salmon is showing no signs of slowing down\, continuing to create new music in the studio\, including the most recent release Brand New Good Old Days (Compass Records 2021). The latest album shows that Leftover Salmon is still proving it possible to recreate themselves without changing who they are. The band now features a lineup that has been together longer than any other in Salmon history and is one of the strongest the legendary band has ever assembled. Built around the core of founding members Drew Emmitt and Vince Herman\, the band is now powered by banjo-wiz Andy Thorn\, and driven by the steady rhythm section of bassist Greg Garrison\, drummer Alwyn Robinson\, and dobro player & keyboardist Jay Starling. The current lineup is continuing the long\, storied history of Salmon which found them first emerging from the progressive bluegrass world and coming of age as one the original jam bands\, before rising to become architects of what has become known as Jamgrass and helping to create a landscape where bands schooled in the traditional rules of bluegrass can break free of those bonds through nontraditional instrumentation and an innate ability to push songs in new psychedelic directions live. Salmon is a band who for more than thirty years has never stood still; they are constantly changing\, evolving\, and inspiring. If someone wanted to understand what Americana music is they could do no better than to go to a Leftover Salmon show\, where they effortlessly glide from a bluegrass number born on the front porch\, to the down-and-dirty Cajun swamps with a stop on Bourbon Street in New Orleans\, to the hallowed halls of the Ryman in Nashville\, before firing one up in the mountains of Colorado. \n\n\n\nLearn more about Leftover Salmon: Website / Facebook / Twitter / Instagram / Youtube / Spotify. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSOLD OUT / JOIN THE WAITLIST\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDETAILS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW @ 8:00 pm / DOORS @ 7:00 pm\n\n\n\nSTANDING ROOM SHOW / 21+\n\n\n\nALL TICKET SALES ARE FINAL\n\n\n\nLimit of 2 tickets per purchaser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented By: The Arts Campus At Willits

She is continuing her studies after receiving a certification of Voice Technique\, Ear Training and Musicianship at Berklee School of Music. \n\n\n\nThe music performed by Josefina combines rhythms\, melodies\, and different performance traditions that surpass the boundaries between language and culture. \n\n\n\nMark Johnson (saxophonist) \n\n\n\nMulti-instrumentalist\, recording artist with JVC records\, producer and arranger for noted contemporary jazz performers Special EFX\, Larry Coryell\, Nelson Rangell\, The Fantasy Band\, Walter Beasley\, Mark Whitfield\, Alex Bugnon\, Gerald Veasley\, Bryan Savage\, Roseanna Vitro\, George Jinda’s World News\, Dave Valentine\, Hiram Bullock\, Chuck Loeb\, NYC Percussionwerks\, Cheili Minnuci\, and the Smooth Players. \n\n\n\nWalter Gorra (pianist) \n\n\n\nWalter Gorra is an award-winning pianist\, composer and arranger based out of the New York/New Jersey metro area. In Walter’s own words “music is a way to express oneself in a way that is often more powerful than words. Through my compositions and my playing I can describe people\, places and experiences in the best way that I can. My debut album\, ‘In Due Time\,’ is really a snapshot of many of the events and people that have influenced me as a musician and as a person.” \n\n\n\nWalter has worked with Billy Childs\, Rufus Reid\, Pete McGuinness\, Ingrid Jensen\, Dave Douglas\, Bill Charlap\, and Harold Mabern\, to name a few. Over the course of two decades\, the 2x GRAMMY® Award winner – and 7x nominee – has crafted a remarkable body of work in progress that prompted the New York Times to hail her for “writing cameo-carved songs that create complete emotional portraits of specific people…her songs have independent lives that continue in your head when the music ends.” \n\n\n\n2019 saw the acclaimed release of the renowned artist’s 10th studio recording and first-ever eponymous LP\, PATTY GRIFFIN\, on her own PGM Recordings label via Thirty Tigers\, which won a GRAMMY® for Best Folk Album . Song “All for You” topped the adult alternative charts during the summer of 1997 and the success propelled their album to platinum status.  \n\n\n\nIn their first showing on the country music charts they made a strong debut with “Lighter In The Dark” at #4 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart\, #6 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart\, #30 on Billboard’s Top Current Albums chart.  \n\n\n\nThe band landed on Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart again in 2018 and 2019 with Volumes I\, II\, III\, and IV of a clever EP compilation series titled “Elements.”  In February 2018\, “Water\,” landed on the Billboard Country Albums chart at #9 and at #2 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart along with making their debut on the most revered stage in country music\, the Grand Ole Opry. In September of 2018\, “Wind” landed at #1 on iTunes country page and #11 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart. In February 2019\, Vol. III “Fire” landed at #5 on Billboard’s Independent Albums chart and #46 Billboard’s Top Country Albums Chart. The collectible compilation series ended with “Earth” which again landed at on the charts at #15 on Billboard’s Americana/Folk Album chart.  \n\n\n\nLiving up to their fan-centered reputation\, the band hosts annual events like “Hazelnut Hang\,” that focuses on fan involvement and was a pioneer in themed cruise experiences by co-founding “The Rock Boat\,” a cruise featuring nonstop opportunities for fan/artist interaction. Sister Hazel has been equally attentive to connecting with their audience through social media. They have since made their Grand Ole Opry debut and shared the stages with country music superstars at The CMA Festival\, Tortuga Music Festival\, among others. In addition to the events and touring\, the band also gives back with “Lyrics For Life.” Founded by singer Ken Block and the Band\, the charity unites musicians and celebrities for concerts and auctions to benefit cancer research and patient-care charities. \n\n\n\nLearn more: Website / Facebook / Instagram / YouTube / Spotify \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n TICKETS\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOPENER: BUCKSTEIN\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nColorado grown — born and raised at 5280. \n\n\n\n“I don’t like country music but I like you.” \n\n\n\nMaybe it’s that “no-fear-of-the-edge” mentality that hooks the non-country-lovin’ folk… but no doubt the 6’4” bass-baritone powerhouse melts\, molds\, and moves you the way only a man of country music can. .  \n\n\n\nThe most common question a singer will be asked is\, “When did you start singing?” Buckstein’s answer: “When I found out that the chicks dig it.” Sounds like a punchline but it’s the truth. \n\n\n\nHe was 13\, at summer camp\, trying to figure out how to meet girls like everyone else. A couple of girls were singing “Amazing Grace” and he shyly scooted up next to them and started singing along. “When they found out I could sing they immediately introduced me to all the other girls in the camp\,” he chuckles. “I’ve been singing ever since.” \n\n\n\nHis love of country music is thanks to his father who introduced him to the genre. Despite his attempts to hate it– “It takes one good country song to hook ya.” Buckstein warns. “Mine was probably ‘Thunder Rolls’ by Garth Brooks or ‘This Ain’t No Thinking Thing’ by Trace Adkins. I heard those tunes when I was about 11 or 12 and something just clicked—I was hooked.” \n\n\n\nHe continued to grow up a country boy at heart often retreating on horseback into the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. However\, living in the city he had the opportunity to explore musical influences outside of the expected box\, running a gamut that you can hear in his writing. Influences include blues\, rock\, rap\, top 40 and classics from the ’50s. \n\n\n\nBuckstein studied theater in college\, earning his BA from California State University\, Fullerton. He had moved to LA to pursue a career as an actor. “I couldn’t get arrested in Los Angeles.” he jokes. “One day a few friends of mine went to the ‘American Idol’ auditions\, which was the hottest show on TV at the time. They wanted some company so I went along. I got through and they didn’t. It was Idol that set me on a different path.” He hit 200 million television sets worldwide as a contestant on the finale of “American Idol” in Season 5\, and he returned to Denver with music on the brain. \n\n\n\nHe started singing with whomever would back him up\, growing along the way\, learning his craft\, year after year\, little by little\, making friends\, music\, mistakes\, and big moves.. “Those years were invaluable\,” he says. “They call it ‘paying your dues.’ It always sounded like a bad thing. But I found out paying your dues can be some of the most fun you’ll ever have.” \n\n\n\nWith the help of his band\, “The Heard”\, he has rocked crowds opening for Charlie Daniels\, Dustin Lynch\, Old Dominion\, Eli Young\, John Michael Montgomery\, Mark Chesnutt\, Vanilla Ice\, and many\, many others. He’s gained local fame as a regular guest star writing witty tunes on the spot on Denver’s hottest country station 98.5 KYGO and also as the writer and performer of “The Grizzly Rose\,” which is a popular song and music video about the famous Denver country nightclub… Buckstein wrote the song about his experience during his first week playing at the legendary venue. \n\n\n\nHe began\, as most do\, singing covers of all of the artists he was most influenced by. Buckstein embraces covers and thinks that no matter what\, “there should always be room in your set to pay homage to the artists and songs that have touched your life. Even when you’re selling out arenas with your own stuff you can do that. I have a saying: ‘Today we play the songs that others have written… so that someday we may play the songs that we have written… so that someday others may play the songs that we have written.’ You gotta put those pauses in there for dramatic effect\,” he laughs.  \n\n\n\nLike any cowboy\, Buckstein has traversed valleys and mountains to get where he is — and his journey is just beginning. \n\n\n\n“Music\, especially country\, is a way to communicate\, to speak our truth\, to build a community around timeless old-world ideals: honesty\, integrity\, facing your fears\, caring for others.”  \n\n\n\nTrue to the cowboy code\, he finds creative ways to explore and communicate universal truths. Buckstein’s goal is to bring soul to everything he does. “What people seem to respond most to in my life and in my live performances is my passion\, so I work hard to bring that passion to everything I record… my sound gets compared a lot to the great bass-baritones of my time: Trace Adkins\, Toby Keith\, Josh Turner\, and Chris Young. But I personally hate comparisons. I don’t think Josh Turner wants to hear he sounds like Don Williams\,” he laughs. “If my sound were a drink\, I’d like to think it would be under a cork instead of a twist cap; a crisp bite with a smooth finish.” \n\n\n\nHe gives all the thanks in the world to his fans and his crew: “Without the people who support me\, on stage and off\, this would all be for nothing. I try to always surround myself with good people who want to make good music for other good people.” \n\n\n\nAnd if you’re still wondering\, it’s pronounced “Buck-steen.” \n\n\n\nLearn more: Facebook / Instagram / YouTube / Spotify \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDETAILS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW @ 8:00 pm / DOORS @ 7:00 pm\n\n\n\nSTANDING ROOM SHOW / 21+\n\n\n\nLocation: TACAW\, 400 Robinson St\, Basalt\, CO 81621\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented By: TACAW

Chris Pureka is a Portland-based singer-songwriter whose body of work has resonated deeply with these seemingly disparate milieus. Their music has straddled the folk\, americana and indie rock genres over the course of their 20 year career\, and over that time\, their bold vulnerability in processing the intimacies of life in song has struck a chord with those listeners who crave authenticity and depth. \n\n\n\nChris’s elegant emotionality as a vocalist and their flair as a lyricist have garnered them favorable comparisons to Chan Marshall\, Bruce Springsteen\, and Patty Griffin. Over many years of touring on both sides of the Atlantic\, they have shared the stage with such diverse and esteemed artists as The Lumineers\, Gregory Alan Isakov\, The Cowboy Junkies\, Haley Heynderickx\, and Ani DiFranco. They have had their songs featured on such television shows as Brothers and Sisters\, Covert Affairs and Shameless and well as a song featured in the Sundance featured indie film\, The Royal Road. Along the way\, Chris has remained truly independent\, selling nearly 50\,000 albums through their own label\, Sad Rabbit Records. \n\n\n\nLearn more: Website / Facebook / Instagram / YouTube / Spotify \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpecial Guest Avery Marshall\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAvery Marshall is a music maker from Tulsa\, Oklahoma. Bach to Philip Glass\, to blues and Irish traditional tunes\, in a way that transcends each individual element\, and becomes its own masterpiece. \n\n\n\nNothing about this production follows any preconceptions. It’s a brilliant experimental ensemble piece of talent and split-second timing\, that throws open the door for an original experience of narrative\, sound\, silence and suspense.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n TICKETS\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArtist Bios:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJOY ADAMS \n\n\n\nCurrently on tour with the hot new alt-bluegrass band “Big Richard”\, Grammy winning cellist Dr. Joy Adams has recorded the haunting cello themes of award-winning Netflix shows “The Queen’s Gambit” and “Godless”\, and performed with major artists such as Bruce Hornsby\, Ben Folds\, Nathaniel Ratcliffe\, Bobby McFerrin and Chick Correa. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nERIC THORIN \n\n\n\nCurrently on tour with Peter Rowan\, Eric Thorin is a highly regarded musician who can be found on stage with The Matt Flinner Trio\, Bonne Paine\, Tony Furtado and more. Four decades later\, energy remains core to our work even as our quest has grown: to transform the global energy system to secure a clean\, prosperous\, zero-carbon future for all. Our mission is global with benefits for all\, including those right here in the Roaring Fork Valley\, alongside the work of local environmental and energy leaders such as Aspen Center for Environmental Studies (ACES) and Holy Cross Energy. \n\n\n\nJoin us at a live\, intimate climate-and-cocktails event featuring a panel of global energy experts in conversation with local journalist Elizabeth Stewart-Severy. In an open discussion\, we’ll explore the connections between the global energy revolution and local transformations\, with an eye on climate policy and funding. Thanks to the climate bill\, recent developments have changed how Roaring Fork Valley-based organizations can go green\, with much to be learned from national community engagement efforts. \n\n\n\nLearn more: Website | Instagram | Facebook | Youtube \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPanelists: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nModerator: Elizabeth Stewart-Severy\, Aspen Journalism \n\n\n\nElizabeth Stewart-Severy is a freelance journalist based in Snowmass Village. SUMMARY:Bombino
DESCRIPTION:Bombino\n\n\n\nOPENER: Garland Burton \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW @ 8:00PM / DOORS @ 7:00PM \n\n\n\n$31 MEMBERS / $35 ADVANCE / $45 DAY OF \n\n\n\nSTANDING ROOM | 18+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenerously underwritten by Michael Lipkin and Jody Guralnick \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT Bombino\n\n\n\nGenre: World / Tuareg \n\n\n\nGuitar luminary + Tuareg folk hero Omara “Bombino” Moctar knows the nomadic life well. Being constantly on the road for his music while also perpetually on the move throughout the Sahel region of Africa is the norm. So when the pandemic brought the world to a screeching halt\, Bombino found himself in an unfamiliar space: being in one place. “I’m used to traveling virtually every week and then I was locked down for two years\,” he says from his home in Niamey\, the capital of Niger. “On the positive side\, I get back in touch with my home and spend real time there with my family for the first time in a long time.”What resulted was the follow-up to 2018’s Deran\, a record that turned Bombino into the first-ever Grammy-nominated artist from Niger. This new collection of songs\, entitled Sahel after the African region spanning East-West from the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea\, is Bombino’s most personal\, powerful\, and politically-minded work to date. It’s also his most sonically diverse\, a quality he set out to achieve from the start\, and one that is meant to directly mirror the complex tapestry of cultures and people that make up the Sahel region itself. He says\, “the general plight of the Tuareg is always on my mind and while I’ve addressed it in my music all along\, I wanted to give it a special focus on this album.”To bring the songs to life\, Bombino worked closely with Welsh producer/ mixer David Wrench (David Byrne\, Frank Ocean\, Caribou\, Goldfrapp\, Erasure\, The xx\, Sampha)\, decamping with his bandmates to a studio in Casablanca for ten days to lay down the album. “Bombino’s an incredible musician\, easily one of the best musicians I ever worked with\,” Wrench says with fondness of seeing the Tuareg guitarist up close. “What he does looks effortless\, but it’s so complex. It’s such a refined style\, it’s so him\, it’s unique. It contains all this history in it\, it’s amazing.” The feeling is mutual. While Bombino has been fortunate to have sympathetic guitarists like Dan Auerbach and David Longstreth sit in the producer’s chair in the past\, Wrench provided a new level of expertise. \n\n\n\n“What I love about working with David is just how incredibly fine-tuned his ear is\, how incredibly focused he gets in the studio\,” Bombino says. “Nothing escapes him. Even the tiniest little things would grab his attention and he would put great focus into the smallest details of the sound.” Time and time again\, Wrench would watch Bombino blaze through an amazing take in the studio\, then go right back “and double-track it and it’s just perfect. He’s operating on some different level somewhere.” \n\n\n\nThe ten songs that comprise Sahel range in theme from the plight of the Tuareg to the ache of lost love to the follies of youth. Opener “Tazidert” preaches patience even as the music itself urges you to stand up and move. The driving “Aitma” features Bombino’s sparks-spraying guitar pyrotechnics\, punctuated by howling ululations. It’s a call-to-arms delivered in his native Tamasheq. “Let’s defend our people because we are the same regardless of our geographical position\,” he says as he shouts out the Tuareg throughout the region. He explains: “When you look at the situations in each of the five countries that make up the Sahel (Libya\, Algeria\, Mauritania\, Mali\, and parts of Burkina Faso)\, the Tuareg people are not represented in these governments.” And only recently did that situation change in Niger. \n\n\n\nSahel looks forward and to the past\, a mix of new and old songs\, but each one of them resonated with Bombino for one reason or another. “A lot of bands go into the studio with a set of tracks that they’ve rehearsed\, but that’s not how Bombino works\,” Wrench says. “He goes with what he’s feeling at the time and it’s a much more instinctive way of recording. He’s drawing from this memory of these hundreds of songs he’s written. He pulls from that well of his own work and the history of his culture; he pulls out of that what he feels is right.” \n\n\n\n“Si Chilan” (Two Days) is one of the oldest songs in Bombino’s extensive repertoire\, first written in the 1980s. “I like to put a spotlight on songs that have persisted in my repertoire for a really long time\, but haven’t made their way onto an album\,” he says. “When you’ve lived with a song for that long\, you’re always finding new things in it\, new ways to express it. They’re dynamic in that sense – the song will continue to evolve\, at least in how I relate to it and perform it. I liken it to honey\, a good old song is like honey\, it just gets better and better with age.” \n\n\n\nSimilarly\, “Nik Sant Awanha” (My Brothers I Know our Situation) dates to the late ‘90s and is one of Bombino’s most incisive political commentaries to date\, lamenting the divisions amid the Tuareg people\, the risks of exile\, and an even greater existential threat\, the loss of Tuareg culture. “Even though geographically the Sahara desert is our home\, so many of the Tuareg people are denied or deprived of certain basic necessities throughout the region\,” he says. “This has been motivating me a lot\, the types of songs I sing and why. I want to get people thinking about the Tuareg\, to represent those people who haven’t been represented. They really need a voice.” \n\n\n\nAside from loss of representation in these countries’ governments and the absence of the Tuareg in mainstream culture\, Bombino sees that even with the instant interconnectedness that smartphones can bring\, “the biggest threat I see is technology and modernization. A small\, marginalized culture like the Tuareg risks getting lost in the homogenization of culture.” \n\n\n\nFor the broader topics that Bombino addresses throughout the album\, the hushed acoustic closer “Mes Amis” sings of youth and unrequited love. “It’s important to reflect the personal themes\, to connect with people on a personal level\, giving them stories and themes they can relate to\,” Bombino says\, adding that the extra time he spent at home\, being with his children\, helped to clarify his purpose. “Everything I do is in service to my family\, to give to them and to better their situation.” \n\n\n\nWrench’s role was to present Bombino and his band in a way that captured the Tuareg sound (which spans centuries) while connecting it to our immediate present. It’s not a museum artifact\, but a living ‘now.’ While Wrench made his name mixing and recording psychedelic rock and electronic music\, he heard Bombino as part of that spectrum. “To me\, I see him not that far outside of those realms. The rhythms are all in 3s instead of 4s\, but it has a similar effect: the repetition and intensity and the feeling it has\, it’s not a million miles away from techno. Listening to his music has a similar effect on you: it can definitely take you somewhere quite different.”With Bombino as your guide\, let Sahel take you there as well. \n\n\n\nLearn more: Website / Facebook / YouTube / Spotify \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOPENER: Garland Burton\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBorn in Greenville\, MS\, and led by his guitar\, Garland Burton has been dazzling locals in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley with various traditional Mississippi Blues genres since 2011.  \n\n\n\nAfter graduating from Mississippi State University\, Garland had interest in pursuing a career in the Music Industry\, and found himself visiting friends in Aspen\, CO. The prolific and intimate music culture in the area captivated Garland as he found comfort in a small town\, along with many other substantial opportunities. Garland feels now is the time to put his talent and artistry on the big stage. “Now that I’m in my mid-30s\, maturity\, wisdom\, and experience has added integrity to the music”\, says Garland. “I have a lot of ideas that cross music genres\, but the Mississippi Delta Blues is what I grew up on\, and I want to be a part of preserving that original American sound.”  \n\n\n\nGarland\, along with drummer Toby Britt\, cover the sounds of Classic Blues to Classic Rock\, with a few of Burton’s originals. From Albert King to Cream\, Garland employs his deep MS roots with Britt’s smooth\, New Orleans influence establishing the “pocket”. You would think Burton’s strings are silk\, but on fire! Many attribute Burton to be the “Gary Clark Jr.” of Aspen. He accepts that comparison as pride to the fact that other young guitarist are also proliferating the Blues genre. “Garland” is a new project working on establishing art and content for eclectic listeners and prospective Blues fans. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDETAILS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDoors open for show @ 7:00pm / Show @ 8:00pm\n\n\n\nSTANDING ROOM | 18+\n\n\n\nGenerously underwritten by Michael Lipkin & Jody Guralnick\n\n\n\nLocation: TACAW\, 400 Robinson St\, Basalt\, CO 81621\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented By: TACAW
