SUMMARY:An Evening with Kassa Overall
DESCRIPTION:An evening with kassa overall\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW @ 8:00 pm / DOORS @ 7:00 pm \n\n\n\n$20 MEMBER / $25 ADVANCE / $35 DAY OF \n\n\n\n limited seating will be available / 16+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nALL TICKET SALES ARE FINAL \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT Kassa Overall\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenre – Jazz/Hip-Hop \n\n\n\nKassa Overall is a Grammy-nominated musician\, emcee\, singer\, producer and drummer who melds avant-garde experimentation with hip-hop production techniques to tilt the nexus of jazz and rap in unmapped directions.  \n\n\n\nOn his first two studio albums GO GET ICE CREAM AND LISTEN TO JAZZ and I THINK I’M GOOD\, Kassa layered virtuosic drumming\, meticulous production techniques\, and incisive lyricism to establish himself as a rhythmic innovator and visionary poet\, using his voice to address the injustices of the carceral system\, the pharmaceutical industry\, and anti-black racism\, while wrangling with the perils of his own mental illness. \n\n\n\nOn ANIMALS\, his Warp Records debut out May 26\, Kassa pushes his kaleidoscopic\, subversive vision further. He layers Roland 808s against avant-garde drumming in the vein of his mentors Elvin Jones and Billy Hart\, the latter of whom he studied with at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Virtuoso musos appear alongside rap poets\, including Danny Brown\, Wiki\, Lil B\, and Shabazz Palaces. Top-flight jazz improvisation weaves in and out of orchestral string arrangements by Jherek Bischoff. The album’s diverse\, all-star roster of collaborators includes several of his close friends\, like vocalists Nick Hakim\, Laura Mvula\, Francis and the Lights\, and jazz stars like Theo Croker and Vijay Iyer.  \n\n\n\nANIMALS pushes Kassa’s message further too\, the title a loaded metaphor for the paradoxes of his life as an entertainer and as a black man in America. ANIMALS is the sound of an artist aware of the cost of embodying one’s natural self in the public eye\, a deep reckoning with the two-sided truth that to perform one’s freedom for an audience can mean succumbing to life inside a cage.  \n\n\n\nLearn more: WEBSITE / FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM / TWITTER / YOUTUBE / SPOTIFY \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDETAILS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW @ 8:00 pm / DOORS @ 7:00 pm\n\n\n\n limited seating will be available / 16+\n\n\n\nALL TICKET SALES ARE FINAL\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented By: The Arts Campus At Willits

The son of a Tulane University professor\, he was taught the rudiments of instrumentation by his uncle on his mother’s ukulele. “Uncle Howard\,” Smither says\, “showed me that if you knew three chords\, you could play a lot of the songs you heard on the radio. And if you knew four chords\, you could pretty much rule the world.” With that bit of knowledge under his belt\, he was hooked. “I’d loved acoustic music – specifically the blues – ever since I first heard Lightnin’ Hopkins’ Blues In My Bottle album. I couldn’t believe the sound Hopkins got. At first I thought it was two guys playing guitar. My style\, to a degree\, came out of trying to imitate that sound I heard.” \n\n\n\nIn his early twenties\, Smither turned his back on his anthropology studies and headed to Boston at the urging of legendary folk singer Eric von Schmidt. It was the mid-’60s and acoustic music thrived in the streets and coffeehouses there. Smither forged lifelong friendships with many musicians\, including Bonnie Raitt who went on to record his songs\, “Love You Like A Man” and “I Feel the Same. (Their friendship has endured as their career paths intertwined over the years.) What quickly evolved from his New Orleans and Cambridge musical experiences is his enduring\, singular guitar sound – a beat-driven finger-picking\, strongly influenced by the playing of Mississippi John Hurt and Lightnin’ Hopkins\, layered over the ever-present backbeat of his rhythmic\, tapping feet (always mic’d in performance). \n\n\n\nThe sound and imagery of the 20th release by Chris Smither\, All About the Bones\, (release date: May 3\, 2024 on Signature Sounds/Mighty Albert\, distributed by Redeye) is as elemental as the inky black shadows cast by a shockingly bright moon. The listener is welcomed into some gothic mansion on an imaginary New Orleans street\, and there in the lamplit parlor confronts the band\, a minimalist skeleton crew: Smither’s inimitable propulsive guitar and rumbling baritone are joined seamlessly to producer David Goodrich’s carpetbag of instruments\, Zak Trojano’s rock-steady\, primal drumming\, BettySoo’s diaphanous harmony vocals\, and the flat\, mournful flood of Jazz legend Chris Cheek’s saxophone. \n\n\n\nLearn more: WEBSITE / FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM / TWITTER / YOUTUBE / SPOTIFY \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocal 7th through 12th graders enrolled in TACAW’s Youth Art Pass program are eligible to receive two (2) free admission tickets: one (1) for them and one (1) for a guest. DESCRIPTION:Los Lobos\n\n\n\nW/ Cousin Curtiss \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW @ 8:00 pm / DOORS @ 7:00 pm \n\n\n\n$45 MEMBER / $50 ADVANCE / $60 DAY OF \n\n\n\nSTANDING ROOM SHOW / 21+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nunderwritten by the Catto Shaw Foundation \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSOLD OUT\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nALL TICKET SALES ARE FINALLimit of 4 tickets per purchaser \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT Los Lobos\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGenre – Rock \n\n\n\nIt’s a matter of time. 50 years to be exact. And in that time Los Lobos have created an unprecedented body of work\, a legacy of greatness. The numbers are staggering: 100+ gigs a year for five decades running\, crossing millions of miles to rock millions of fans. And that’s just at the live shows. In between they’ve recorded 17 studio albums\, 7 live LPs\, 3 compilations\, 2 EPs\, 2 DVDs\, and contributed 40+ guest appearances on their friends’ recordings — all garnering 5 Grammys\, an Austin City Limits Hall of Fame induction\, the ALMA Richie Valens Pioneer Award\, NEA and Hispanic Heritage Foundation Honors\, Congressional recognitions\, plus countless “Keys to the City” and “Los Lobos Day” celebrations. And those are just a few of the highlights. But beyond all the hoopla and applause (and the source of it all\, really) is the tremendous heart. Rather\, hearts. Cinco corazones. Five blood brothers who have dedicated their off-stage time to helping others\, working for peace and justice\, penning some of the most literate and important music of their time\, transforming the hard cries from the East L.A. barrio into songs of hope\, tales of common folk finding ways to endure. The young wolves were weaned on late-night radio’s soul\, R&B\, and doo-wop. Were cured through the African-American currents of the blues\, jazz\, and rock ‘n’ roll. An amalgam. As proud Chicanos\, their songs have always glistened with the distillation from their Mexican and Latin American roots — nourished by Norteña and rancheras\, buoyed by bolero and cumbias\, soaring on the rhythms of son huasteco and son jarocho. Los Lobos have helped spread the rich diversity of cultures across every continent\, throughout the global community. Kids in Antwerp now know about Aztlán. Residents of Luxor and Ghana are crooning Lalo Guerrero. People from Laos and Bulgaria are belting “La Bamba” — all thanks to The Wolves as cultural ambassadors. Talk about a living legacy. Talk about a productive half century. And in the true rebel spirit\, they did it all on their own terms\, against formula. For the ages. To our delight. Quite simply\, they are one of the tightest\, one of the best\, one of the most prolific bands ever. And\, amazingly\, with the original founding members as the pack the entire time. Unprecedented. As their liner notes put it\, quite simply: “Los Lobos still are David Hidalgo\, Louie Pérez\, Jr.\, Cesar Rosas\, Conrad Lozano\, Steve Berlin.” \n\n\n\nLearn more: WEBSITE / FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM / YOUTUBE / SPOTIFY \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSOLD OUT\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCousin Curtiss\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCousin Curtiss brings to the stage a fiery dynamic rarely seen by a solo act and now partnered up with the equally enigmatic and soulfully driven electric guitar prowess of Harrison B\, these two road warriors are on a mission to electrify audiences everywhere with their two-man full-band sound. Think\, “blues at bluegrass speeds.” Imagine\, “rock americana with a soulful drip.” Experience rapid fire acoustic guitar\, incendiary harmonica\, fiercely energized solos\, all driven by a thunderous kick drum. \n\n\n\nLearn more: Website / Instagram / Facebook / Twitter / Youtube / Spotify \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDETAILS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW @ 8:00 pm / DOORS @ 7:00 pm\n\n\n\nSTANDING ROOM SHOW / 21+\n\n\n\nALL TICKET SALES ARE FINAL\n\n\n\nLimit of 4 tickets per purchaser\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented By: The Arts Campus At Willits

DESCRIPTION:SunSquabi\n\n\n\nW/ Josh Teed and Heady Hooligan \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW @ 8:00 pm / DOORS @ 7:00 pm \n\n\n\n$36 MEMBER / $40 ADVANCE / $50 DAY OF \n\n\n\nSTANDING ROOM SHOW / 18+ \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW @ 8:00 pm / DOORS @ 7:00 pm \n\n\n\nALL TICKET SALES ARE FINALLimit of 4 tickets per purchaser. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT SUNSQUABI\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMusic brings us to our feet literally\, figuratively\, and spiritually. It inspires us to rise up to our day’s trials and tribulations\, and on a larger scale\, the world’s challenges. Through an unspoken sonic communion between three distinct musical identities\, SunSquabi—Kevin Donohue [guitar\, keys\, production]\, Josh Fairman [bass\, synth]\, and Chris Anderson [drums]—rouse us from inactivity and into action when we need the extra push through their signature live electronica sound. After racking up tens of millions of streams and delivering rapturous performances at legendary venues such as Red Rocks Amphitheatre\, they incite personal revolution louder than ever on their third full-length album\, Arise\, releasing on October 26\, 2022.  \n\n\n\n“Since we’ve all been put down very hard for the past two years\, the entire world has felt this pressure\, sadness\, and struggle\,” observes Kevin. “So we tried to relay a message of arising from the ashes and becoming something new. This album shows how we’re able to do so during a really tough time.”  \n\n\n\nSunSquabi has ignited the energy of listeners everywhere since 2015. They’ve unveiled a string of fan favorite releases such as Odyssey [2016]\, Deluxe EP [2017]\, and Instinct [2019]. In addition to praise from 303 Magazine\, JamBase\, Live For Live Music\, and many more\, WestWord proclaimed\, “The record has electrifying moments\,” and ThisSongIsSick raved\, “SunSquabi never fails to bring the funk. Throughout the project they showcase their instrumentation highlighting shredding guitar riffs\, funky basslines and crisp percussion with just the right touch of electronic production elements.” Along the way\, they’ve sold out venues coast-to-coast\, capturing one of three Red Rocks gigs so far on SunSquabi (Live at Red Rocks). The guys have collaborated with String Cheese Incident\, Late Night Radio\, Lettuce\, and GRiZ\, to name a few. During 2019\, the musicians began kicking around initial ideas for Arise during marathon jam sessions.  \n\n\n\nAs the Pandemic shut down touring\, SunSquabi continued to write and record.  \n\n\n\n“A couple of songs came together as jams in the basement or on live streams\,” recalls Kevin. “We’d rework these improv-based ideas in the studio. It was an extended process. We definitely took advantage of the time.”  \n\n\n\nJosh adds\, “We’re very proud of the band staying true to the music and to each other. We came together during the Pandemic and made sacrifices together. We’ve bonded as a band. We don’t try to jump on any trends. We’re true to ourselves and make music we feel in our hearts.”  \n\n\n\nYou’ll feel songs such as the first single “Elephant Song” [feat. Dominic Lalli of Big Gigantic] released on July 29\, 2022. Born as an improvised jam during one of the band’s early Pandemic livestreams\, the guys orbit an otherworldly groove\, cycling between warbling spacey guitar\, hypnotic electronics\, and a soaring saxophone solo courtesy of Dominic.  \n\n\n\n“With this song in particular\, elephants represent luck\, good strength\, and loyalty\,” Kevin elaborates. “‘Elephant Song’ represented us sticking together and sharing the ability to write songs even though everything was shut down. It’s about realizing what you have and using your strength and the family around you\, which is what Elephants do. It felt like it needed a lead voice\, so it was natural to include Dom. Big Gigantic was a big influence for us to start SunSquabi. We’re integrating the electronic side of things into hip-hop\, funk\, and rock.”  \n\n\n\nThen\, there’s “Scorpion.” A danceable melody stings between a shimmering beat\, neon keys\, and fretboard-burning guitar\, gestating during a run of live gigs feeding off the energy of the crowd\, mountains\, and desert.  \n\n\n\n“Scorpions are symbols of danger and death\,” Josh states. “A scorpion is usually a warning. However\, a scorpion may also show up in your life as a blessing. It’s similar to how we were able to take this dark period of time and turn it into a blessing and a symbol of power.”  \n\n\n\n“When everything is hard and unknown\, you appreciate what you do have and what is important like your family\, friends\, and health\,” Josh continues. “There’s no light without darkness. It’s about seeing the positives even though you acknowledge how weird everything is.”  \n\n\n\nIn the end\, SunSquabi uplifted once again with Arise. \n\n\n\n “If there’s an intention\, it’s to lift people’s spirits\,” Kevin leaves off. “There’s always a way to rise up.”  \n\n\n\n“We’ve been going to Hawaii a bunch\, and we went to see the lava\,” Josh adds. “With lava\, you witness epic destruction of what was there before. At the same time\, you’re witnessing the creation of the youngest land in existence. It’s a cycle of making something out of the destruction and moving on with appreciation. Arise is an example of what can come out of a rough situation. You can move forward.”   \n\n\n\nLearn more: WEBSITE / FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM / TWITTER / YOUTUBE / SPOTIFY \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT JOSH TEED\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWeaving soul-touching\, intricate melodies together with experimental sound design\, Josh Teed’s music is an experience unlike any other. \n\n\n\nAfter 20+ years with a violin in hand\, the producer and instrumentalist is aiming to break down the barriers between electronic and instrumental music by bringing his unique blend of hard hitting bass and outside the box violinistry to ears around the world. \n\n\n\nLearn more: FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM / SPOTIFY / SOUNDCLOUD \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nABOUT HEADY HOOLIGAN\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHeady Hooligan aka Marc McMillan is a Colorado based musician from Carbondale Colorado in the Roaring Fork Valley. His music blends electronic dance grooves with ambient synth sweeps\, meditative guitar lines and funky dance beats; cultivating a danceable space funk party.  \n\n\n\nHe utilizes analog synths and drum machines to create elements of hip-hop\, jazz\, funk and ambient bliss. This Jessica Catto Dialogue will delve into the policies shaping US food systems\, the impact agriculture has on the environment\, our inefficiencies of land use\, and the “agricultural exceptionalism” that protects the industry from oversight. We’ll discuss different policy approaches and priorities regarding past and future Farm Bills and how rethinking the food system more broadly offers options that uplift and support farmers\, farmworkers\, animals\, and most importantly… you. \n\n\n\nLearn more about ACES: Website / Instagram / Facebook / Youtube \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPeter Lehner is managing attorney of Earthjustice’s Sustainable Food and Farming Program\, deploying strategies to promote a more environmentally sound agricultural system. \n\n\n\nFrom 2007 to 2015\, Lehner was the executive director of the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and the NRDC Action Fund leading all aspects of the organizations’ work. From 1999 to 2006\, Lehner served as chief of the Environmental Protection Bureau of the New York State Attorney General’s office\, where his team prosecuted a wide variety of polluters and developed innovative multistate strategies targeting global warming and air pollution. Previously\, Lehner worked with the New York City Law Department\, starting and leading its Environmental Prosecution Unit. Lehner teaches a seminar on food systems and environmental law at Columbia and Yale Law Schools. \n\n\n\nLehner has a B.A. from Harvard in philosophy and mathematics and a J.D. from Columbia Law School. Her expertise lies in engaging diverse stakeholders to develop sustainable national supply chains\, a focus that has been central to her work with member organizations. \n\n\n\nThis work has led Jessica to engage across industries including in the for and non-profit worlds\, as well across the government engaging both policy makers and policy implementors to create meaningful change that impacts the lives of those working to improve the world around them. \n\n\n\nWorking in both local and national food systems has allowed Jessica to more directly understand and engage in the issues that impact both our global food system and those on the front lines of this work. By connecting players across the food and agriculture spaces Jessica is able to identify the roadblocks in advancing the system and guide the development of solutions that address the root cause of the block. Focusing on all possible levers to create lasting change allows for solutions that address all sectors and players and lead to lasting change. \n\n\n\nThroughout her career spanning multiple sectors including energy\, maternal and newborn health\, education\, food access\, and agriculture as well as a global approach from working with partners around the globe\, Jessica has developed a versatile approach to problem-solving and collaboration. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nElizabeth Candelario \n\n\n\nChief Strategy Officer \n\n\n\nElizabeth has worked at the intersection of food\, climate\, and agriculture for the past fifteen years. She is Chief Strategy Officer for Mad Agriculture\, a non-profit that works with farmers as agents of change to move from extractive\, conventional agriculture to regenerative\, organic farming. The Mad! ecosystem of companies provides land and business planning\, farmer forward financing\, marketplace development\, and storytelling. Elizabeth’s role is to implement strategic initiatives in collaboration with our diverse network of partners in order to accelerate systematic change in our food system and help spark the regenerative revolution in agriculture.   \n\n\n\nIn her prior role as President of Demeter USA\, the exclusive domestic certifier of Biodynamic farms and products\, Elizabeth focused on expanding awareness and markets to enhance returns for regenerative farmers. She began her career in the California wine industry\, where she spent nearly two decades in increasingly senior positions\, with a growing emphasis on the environment. \n\n\n\nElizabeth speaks frequently at national food and environmental conferences\, and has written extensively on agriculture and climate change. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFREE WITH RSVP\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDETAILS \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDoors open @ 5:30pm / Program @ 6:00pm\n\n\n\nSeated Show / All Ages\n\n\n\nLocation: TACAW\, 400 Robinson St\, Basalt\, CO 81621\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented By: TACAW & in Partnership with Aspen Center For Environmental Studies

Drawing from both extensive catalogs of music\, the Dead Floyd performances include early rarities to modern classics and everything in between. The love of the music of both bands inspires Dead Floyd to uniquely interpret the songs in a way that allows the music to timelessly live on and the legacy of both bands to stay alive to the next generation of fans. The excitement\, creativity\, and improvisation that went into both bands live shows of so many years is brought back for old and new fans to enjoy today. \n\n\n\nBecause the number of songs available from both bands is so large\, the question that is heard at every Dead Floyd show is “What will they play next?” The unpredictability of the set list and the modern translation of classic\, beloved songs bring an element of surprise to every Dead Floyd show. That is what has kept fans captivated and why their legacy as a tribute band continues to grow. \n\n\n\nDead Floyd is based out of Fort Collins\, Colorado and\, since forming in summer 2009\, they have performed at renowned venues such as The Fox Theater\, Aggie Theatre\, Boulder Theater\, Mishawaka Amphitheatre\, Belly Up Aspen\, and more. In addition\, the band has been consistently voted one of the top tribute bands in Colorado. \n\n\n\nThe members of the band draw on their roots in jazz\, funk\, and rock to bring a high level of musicianship to the music and close attention to detail. The band is made up of Charlie Humphreys (guitar\, vocals)\, Josh Miller (bass\, vocals)\, Stu Crair (drums\, vocals)\, and Matt Goldberg (keys\, synth). This group of players has combined to perform over 1000 shows across the country in various original projects including The Grippe\, Musketeer Gripweed\, Hot Gazpacho\, The Maji\, Wooleye\, Holy Moses and the High Rollers\, Orooni\, and many more. \n\n\n\nThe audience response to Dead Floyd has been overwhelming for everyone involved and the fans’ love of the music pushes this project to new heights. His music is poetry in motion\, using harmonics\, looping\, multiple capos\, and his unique banter and stage presence to deliver an unforgettable live concert experience. Listening to his intricate arrangements is one thing\, but seeing the fan-dubbed “Acoustic Ninja” play live confounds even the most accomplished music lovers as to how one person can do all that with just two hands and ten fingers. \n\n\n\nBundy’s unique career has brought him across the world\, with concerts in 28 countries and counting – from high-tech performance halls in South Korea and Italy\, to remote villages in Zimbabwe and Guatemala. He has independently sold over 150\,000 albums on his record label\, Honest Ninja Music. His video clips circulate virally at astonishing speed\, with over 45 million YouTube views to date. \n\n\n\nJimmy Leslie at Guitar Player Magazine blogs “It was easy to see why Bundy plays bigger venues on each tour. In his hands\, the acoustic guitar is an imagination station\, and there was no telling where he is going take the audience at any given turn. Thrilling stuff.” \n\n\n\nAudiocast Magazine from Austin\, TX agrees: “Bundy’s live show is without a doubt an event that needs to be witnessed rather than told about. With such a jaw-dropping performance\, Bundy’s live concert is a slap in the face that would leave a palm print on the memory of everyone in the audience.” \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLearn more: WEBSITE / FACEBOOK / INSTAGRAM / YOUTUBE / SPOTIFY \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTICKETS\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLocal 7th through 12th graders enrolled in TACAW’s Youth Art Pass program are eligible to receive two (2) free admission tickets: one (1) for them and one (1) for a guest.
