Over the course of one week\, middle schoolers explore the art of comedy through games\, lessons\, and play. We create a brave\, inclusive room where students can take fun risks\, learn to support one another\, write jokes\, tell stories through sketch and think on their feet. \n\n\n\nWhether students join for the full series or drop in for a single session\, every student leaves with tools to express themselves\, collaborate kindly\, and have a blast doing it. \n\n\n\nMaking mischief fun! \n\n\n\nWe encourage students to join for the full week since skills will build from day to day—but each drop-in session is also designed to stand on its own. \n\n\n\nSCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION \n\n\n\nWhat we’ll do: \n\n\n\n\nPlay improv games and warm-ups that encourage listening\, taking creative risks\, and saying “Yes\, And” to each other’s ideas.\n\n\n\nTurn everyday experiences into funny jokes\, punchlines\, and other comedic storytelling tools.\n\n\n\nDevelop comedic voice and practice performance skills\n\n\n\nLessons\, games\, and discussions to sharpen quick thinking\, discover what makes things funny\, and celebrate creative risk-taking.\n\n\n\n\nBy the end of the week\, students will: \n\n\n\n\nDemonstrate “Yes\, And” and basic improv principles (agreement\, teamwork\, listening).\n\n\n\nLearned the basics of a premise\, setup\, and punchline to craft a stand‑up bit.\n\n\n\nBegin to understand the principles behind comedy and how all comedic forms tie together.\n\n\n\nCollaborate in groups to create scenes.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYour Instructor: Miller Ford \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMiller Ford is a founder of Consensual Improv and a founder of Patio Night Live \, which produces stand up shows throughout the valley. He has toured as an MC with Warren Miller Entertainment and has been a host for multiple fundraisers right here in the valley. This performance is the culmination of the Aspen Music Festival and School and TACAW’s first Collective Composition Workshop. \n\n\n\nAbout the Program \n\n\n\nThe Collective Composition Workshop invites students in grades 4-12 to come together for an intensive\, week-long creative process. Centered on student voice and leadership\, the workshop encourages participants to explore themes that matter to them and to express their experiences through sound. Guided by professional musicians who have honed this educational approach with young artists nationwide\, students nurture their innate creativity and build confidence as collaborators while composing an original piece of music together. \n\n\n\nSupported by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts\, this year’s creative process was inspired by the America250 youth essay prompt: “What does America mean to you?” The resulting composition belongs entirely to the students and often reaches beyond what they typically encounter in traditional music lessons. This performance showcases that artists of all ages and abilities can contribute meaningfully to the future of American music. \n\n\n\nAbout the Aspen Music Festival and School \n\n\n\nWEBSITE \n\n\n\nFounded in 1949\, the Aspen Music Festival and School is regarded as one of the top classical music festivals in the United States\, noted both for its concert programming and its musical training of mostly young-adult music students. The eight-week summer season includes hundreds of classical music events: concerts by four orchestras\, recitals\, chamber music\, operas\, classes\, lectures\, and family programs. In the winter\, the AMFS presents recitals and robust music education programs for local youth and families. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRSVP\n\n\n\nVIEW CALENDAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDETAILS\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSHOW @ 6:00 pm / DOORS @ 5:00 pm\n\n\n\nSEATED SHOW / ALL AGES (Under 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian)\n\n\n\nALL TICKET SALES ARE FINAL\n\n\n\nLocation: TACAW\, 400 Robinson St\, Basalt\, CO 81621\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresented By: TACAW
